we are watching the temperatures very carefully. they tell the whole story north right now at 32. 34 at nation. -- at national. cold enough to keep it above freezing. there is a slickness on the sidewalks the roads won't be much of a concern. this afternoon much better, upper 30s, northeastern maryland. harrison burglary around 50. 44 in dc.

monika samtani, we have snow, sleet, little bit of freezing rain. >> not going to help the situation. for those of you who are deciding to get an early start, for the most part that is a good idea. as howard has been saying all morning it is the time that is going to be a ncern. give yourself the extra time you may need as some of this ice comes in. if you are planning to head over on the beltway, west side of town, you see this yellow behind me, that means there is some volume. i think there is earlier than normal. no issues on the toll road or 66 from the west. if you are planning to head here on the southbound side here of 270, volumes are light between route 109 and 121. back to the map this time, closer inside the beltway, all of your bridges are fine remember bridges are a concern with weather like this. right now no issues on the

road. everything looks good on the seuss sa bridge coming in on pennsylvania avenue. one more live look this time northbound side of i-95. mike back to you. friends co-workers and students joined together to remember a mother and a daughter who died in a fire last week. a memorial for laura snyder gardner and her 16-year-old daughter, marley ann was held at gallaudet university. the two died back on january 23rd, when the home they were represent not guilty falls church caught fire in the very early morning hours. they are going to be buried in their native state of wisconsin. two robbery related incidents near the university of maryland's college park campus has students on alert. the first happened sunday just outside the shanghai cafe. suspects punched a man and took his wallet and cell phone.

the man tried to rob a student of his laptop and the two scuffled and the would-be robber took off on foot. i am watching your money investors are wondering if they can keep this rally going friday. friday the s & p 500 is a very broad index of the overall stock mark. it closed above 1500 for the first time since the start of the great recession back in 2007. checking the numbers for you, the dow had a good day too, it was up by 70 points to hit another five year high. the nasdaq was up by 19 and the s & p 500 was up by 8 points florida apple no longer the most valuable stock in the world. it got bumped friday by none other than oil join mobile. it was down around $440 a share

as of the latest sessions. that followed a disappointing earnings report. now it is official toyota once again the world's top automaker. the japanese automaker just released its global vehicle sales for last year. it sold 9.75 million vehicles. gm had been the top selling automaker for more than seven decades before losing the title to toyota in 2008. they keep going back and forth on that crown, who is selling the most in the world. >> it is a big challenge, especially with toyota having as many recalls. another miracle on the hudson. not as big, but pretty impressive still. >> two people aboard a small plane survived after crashing into the icy water. that story, coming up. we hear from the great eight after the caps finally get their first win of the

howard bernstein has complications for you this morning. >> reporter: especially there morning, over the next four or five hours or so, right now, we have temperatures which are critical, at or below freezing in many areas, we have a mix of snow and sleet and freezing rain coming down. it is fairly light but it is accumulating just enough to cause some problems. here's your day planner. temperatures this morning starting right around freezing here with that mix of rain and freezing rain. we'll quickly warm up by midmorning, here in dc. north of town the cold will hold on a little longer. winner weather advisory by 10:00 a.m. a high of 44 today. by 8:00 we are 40 degrees and cloudy. we are going to stay in the

upper 30s. once we get out of the morning, here's the winter weather advisories, you go east of the bay and these pink areas down south as you get toward richmond those are freezing rain advisories for several hours this morning. as the moisture coming in from the west hits the cold air which is in place. especially difficult to dislodge, but it is going to take a little time. north of town we are getting reports of snow and sleet mixed in, in many areas. south of town i have had reports of sleet down in stafford, sleet in waldorf from our weather watchers, you see these higher returns here, sometimes heavy rain, this down here is likely sleet as well. temperatures as i said critical this morning, even in areas where it is above freezing,

like la plata, at 33. there are going to be pockets in southern maryland that are at freezing and the air is cold enough to support precipitation coming down. don't be surprised if the sleet is pattering on the windows this morning for awhile. 34 in culpepper. 29 hagerstown. these are going to be the areas that will be the last to switch over. we have decent visibility but cloudy skies, a snow sleet mix. light rain at national, again visibility is good, winds south at 9, bringing in warmer air. what you see on the temperatures is a surge of warmth here, st. louis 5, bismarck 22. arctic air up in north they were maine. that is it for now. we are going to see warm weather for the next couple of days move north. the jet stream will push the warmth toward the midwest

first. today we get in the 40s, tomorrow 50s and wednesday we are climbing into the 60s. the problem is this morning we are dealing with enough cold air to give us sleet and freezing rain and little bit of snow at the onset. most of the ice areas north and northeast of town, as we head toward lunch time, still showers around. anybody seeing anything frozen, likely up toward northeastern maryland, near the maryland border. temperatures climb into the low to mid-40s, milder air moves in in fact tonight we are going to stay in the 30s to near 40 for a low. tomorrow looks like a nice tuesday around here, we'll get sunshine, especially south and west in the afternoon. highs tomorrow in the 50s to even 60 plus where the sun comes out and we could be flirting with 70 in spots by wednesday. today 44, we have the freezing rain early, a yellow

early start. southbound 270, same story. lots of slow traffic that stretched from 109 to 121. we'll take a live look outside. here's what it looks like on the beltway at new hampshire avenue. still looks good receiving the 95 interchange as you head westbound toward silver spring and bethesda. back to the maps, this time west on the inbound side of i-66, we will definitely start to see brake lights out of manassas into centerville. once you are in centerville it seems to break loose a bit traveling toward fairfax. northbound 95, don't forget about that accident in quantico sitting on the left shoulder. back to you guys. thank you monika. arlington county schools are closed. we have a lot of delays, that is one of the few closures. we just got that in. speaking of ice, that is the reason why they closed. the profession alice on the ice, the caps did not go nearly as

p.m. temperature of 52. much better by lunch time. good morning, everybody. when the nhl season started, we knew there would be stuttering out the gate. with the caps losing four straight to open the season and finding themselves in the penalty box way too much, players and coach adam oats were starting to question the team's work ethic i'm sure many of you fans were as well. but yesterday the caps they finally seem to be getting into somewhat of a group. the buffalo who were visiting, tyler in to put the sabres on top. the caps got going four minutes left. it is their third goal of the season. the moment you have been waiting for. alex o, gets his first goal of

we have sleet, freezing rain, wet snowflakes from there as well. temperatures running in the low 30s. some problems with a little bit of build up here and there. by 9:00 still that wintry mix, especially north of town. by noon showers, 37. so winter weather advisory this morning. wait a minuter weather advisory covers just about everybody. down south a freezing rain advisory toward the richmond area. raining in the ohio valley. the moisture goes all the way back toward illinois and chicago. seeing showers this morning. just a mess of snow sleet freezing rain all over the place.

while it is above freezing temperaturewise, freezing rain toward winchester. dcnorth and east and even southern maryland, areas of snow and sleet this morning with temperatures in the lower 30s. 30 in gaithersburg. 32 andrews, south of town 35 in fredericksburg. monika samtani, good morning to you. monday ice goo. >> good morning. >> great combo, great way to start off the week, don't you think? not really on the southbound side of i-27 0, for example you have tons of slow traffic. it started way in the early morning 5:00 hour as you head southbound on i-27 0, expect delays coming down from 109 to 121. look at there on the northbound side of i-95, early morning accident sits on the shoulder but because of that, you are going i would say about 28 miles per hour trying to get up

toward triangle and to that point an accident sitting on the shoulder there. no problems beyond that as we head toward springfield. we'll look northbound side of i-95, heavy, heavy volume, of course lots of people listening to us and trying to get an early start, which is a good thing heading northbound on i-95 as well. let's go back to the maps, this time to southern maryland, all of your major corridors are still looking good. no problems to report out of brandywine. a live look here at the wilson bridge where traffic volumes are light on the south side of town. back with more traffic in ten minutes. just to clarify too, fairfax county is actually off today and tomorrow student holidays. they are not going to have an issue today and boy, are we having issues. a couple of degrees, can make a huge difference. >> it is mostly below freezing outside the beltway. howard has been showing up

delia is live in leesburg checking on the conditions there, morning delia. >> reporter: good morning. actually we are getting freezing rain here in leesburg, right off route 70. the morning commute is well underway. so far so good though, no major slick spots on the road that we have encountered. our drive to leesburg started around 4:00 this morning. we saw several vehicles laying down salt. you can certainly tell by those delays and advisories and even the closings that we have heard so far, in the northern virginia area that everyone is advising drivers to stay off the roads so these crews and other crews in our area can do their work to

make sure these roads are clear. so they want you to stay home so these guys can do their work. if you need to head out, i guess the advisory is to drive very slowly, even though it seems clear right now as far as the road conditions, they are just really wet pavement at this point because crews have done a good job, there could be some slick spots. drive carefully, drive defensively and remember the bridges and off ramps always freeze first. back to you. >> the trucks are out there parked on the side of the road. thanks delia. a bipartisan group of senators has agreed on a sweeping rewrite of the u.s. immigration laws. they plan to formally announce the deal they worked on later today. it is said to cover border security, guest workers and employer verification as well as a pass to legal citizenship. it is believed there are at least 11 million immigrants already in the united states that are undocumented.

president obama plans to address immigration reform tomorrow during a speech in nevada. today the senate is expected to pass a $50 billion bill to help victims of superstorm sandy. as many as 40,000 people are left homeless, at least 3500 families are still living some hotels. fema is fund that go temporary housing. the house pass this had bill just a couple of weeks ago. watching your money i have timely shopping tips for you. if you want too step out in a new wardrobe or pick up electronics, this is actually a really good time to buy. stores are trying to get rid of all the left over christmas merchandise and apparel deals have heated up so far this year. the deals aren't just awin heir peril either. you are finding deep discounts on basics like socks and
